Your task is to work in groups of four and produce a front-page for the Maycomb Times, a newspaper from the fictional town in the novel. Your group should write four articles (one per person in your group).
Include in your newspaper:
- Two news stories
- One feature story based on novel’s events
- One editorial
Your newspaper should be a blend of faction based on facts and events from the novel. Be creative, using photos of the time period and remember that this is a "newspaper". Be sure to use proper grammar and spelling.
Your group may create a PowerPoint presentation which summarizes what life was like in a small southern town in the Depression Era 1930’s. The PowerPoint should include information about:
- The Great Depression
- Jim Crow laws
- Southern black society
- Southern white society
Be sure to include photos, and if possible, video links and sound to make your PowerPoint interesting. Use proper grammar and spelling in your text.
All students will give an oral presentation with their groups to the entire class at the conclusion of this project. Every member of your group must participate!
Each student should write a five paragraph essay explaining how they think the Depression, racism and societal norms affected events in the book. As always, use proper grammar and spelling.
